Choosing a charger for an electric car should not depend solely on its maximum power. Important factors also include the place of use, electrical installation capabilities, operating method, and the need to control access. A homeowner needs a different device, a business or hotel needs another, and a driver who wants to take the charger on a journey needs yet another.
The Defenzo range includes solutions that respond to these needs: Wallbox Home AC (also in the Smart version), Wallbox Pro AC, and the ToGo AC mobile charger.
Defenzo chargers. The most important differences
Defenzo Wallbox Home AC is intended primarily for daily car charging at home, in a private garage, or on a driveway. Its main advantage is simple operation. The standard version works in automatic mode and does not require authorization each time. In the Smart version, charging can additionally be unlocked with an RFID card or an app. Wallbox Home AC is available in 7 and 11 kW variants, and the Smart version in an 11 kW variant. The device features an RGB LED and a cable with a Type 2 connector.
Defenzo Wallbox Pro AC will work well in companies, hotels, residential communities, and parking lots where multiple people use a single device. The ability to initiate charging with an RFID card or an app allows you to restrict access to the station. Wallbox Pro AC has a display, an LED indicator, and a Type 2 cable. It comes in one powerful 22 kW variant.
Defenzo ToGo AC is a solution for drivers who primarily care about mobility. The charger is available in 7 kW (single-phase 32 A socket) and 11 kW (three-phase 16 A socket) variants. It can be carried in the car and used in various locations. The display shows, among other things, the current power, charging time, and the amount of energy consumed. Adjusting the current allows you to adapt the operation of the device to the available power source.
Defenzo ToGo AC will work well during trips, in an additional parking spot, or where a permanent wallbox cannot be installed.
In short: Choose Wallbox Home AC for convenient charging at home, Wallbox Pro AC for places with many users and the need for 22 kW of power, and ToGo AC if the ability to use the charger in various locations is most important.
What power output for an electric car charger?
A 7 kW charger uses a single-phase power supply and a 32 A current. The 11 kW variant uses a three-phase system and a 16 A current, while a 22 kW device requires three phases and a 32 A current.
The power of the charger must be matched to both the electrical installation and the capabilities of the car. The most important rule is: the car will not draw more power than its onboard charger supports. If a vehicle accepts a maximum of 11 kW of AC power, connecting it to a 22 kW wallbox will not shorten the charging time. Similarly, a car charging on only one phase will use one phase from an 11 kW charger, which is about 3.7 kW.
Before purchasing, it is worth checking the exact model and variant of the car, maximum AC charging power, number of phases, available power allocation, and required safety devices. The selection of the installation and protections should be confirmed by a qualified installer.
Which Defenzo charger to choose?
Choose Wallbox Home AC if you need a simple device to charge your car in a private garage or driveway. If you also want to control access with an RFID card or an app, choose the Smart version. Choose Wallbox Pro AC if you need 22 kW of power and a charger for multiple users with RFID or app access control. Opt for ToGo AC if you travel often, use various parking spots, or cannot install a permanent wallbox.
